This is a silly question about Potlucks. You know, where everybody brings something and you all share.

I work in a place with over 400 people in it. There have been a couple of potlucks that were for the entire place. But my personal workgroup only has about 15 people in it. Last Friday we had our own potluck. That is fairly common. I have walked past other work groups since I have been there and seen that they had done their own too.

This is where the silly question comes in:

If a workgroup of about 15 people in it has a potluck and they set it up in their own little area and don’t put a sign on it telling everyone and anyone that they are welcome to partake, is it RUDE for other people to just come over and help themselves?

I think it is horribly rude. Not that I don’t like to share, but in a million years I would never just walk up to somebody else’s potluck and start helping myself without being invited or asking if it was okay. And I can’t imagine asking.

Am I crazy?

Because our work area is near the perimeter of the building and there is a large conference room near us and the Management Team, yes…the people who run the place all just popped in and helped themselves.

Some of them reached over the cubicle wall even.

But the woman who actually runs the joint came in and started making a plate. Being the brown noser that I am, I told her to please help herself to a brownie as I had made them. But seriously, if she wasn’t in charge of the joint, including approving raises and promotions and stuff I would have been a lot more bitchy and given her the evil-eye, like WTF do you think you are doing? LOL

Any ideas? Am I nuts? Am I right? Do I just not get it?

Oh and sorry I haven't been around much. Work consumes my life right now. And that is a pretty good thing, but does not give me much spare time. I try to read my f-list daily but I hardly have time to comment, but it is nice to keep tabs on what you all are up to. I didn't realize it has been more than a month since I have made an entry. My goodness, you all might not even remember who I am.

I had the feeling that all the time that I spend online at LJ and my computer in general was just a waste of time. Certainly it has been a great diversion, and it is fun, and writing and posting stories and commenting on other people’s posts and replying to comments to my posts has been very enjoyable.

But I realized recently that there are so many skills that I learned here at LJ and a few other online locations are what make me good at my new job.

Who knew that LJ could help me be a productive employee? Not me.

I stumbled on Toe Socks the other day.  I'd never owned a pair, but they were so cute and colorful that I couldn't resist.  I bought one pair and I loved them so much that I went back to the store that I bought them at and got 6 more pairs in different colored stripes.

I am so out of the loop.  I bet I am the only one who didn't know how cute and comfy these are.

I am so sorry to those people who were so nice as to buy me virtual gifts for my birthday that I failed to thank in my general 'thank you' for being so nice to me on my birthday post.  I was so tired after working all day I didn't even think to look at my Profile Page and so I missed the virtual gifts received from:

[info]sleepless3333

And, thank you to the belated birthday wishers.

I love my f-list.  Each and every one of you.  Even though I have been so busy closing the old business and being gone from home for over eleven hours every day at my new job and commuting, I feel horrible that I haven't been around much lately, but I do scan my f-list every few days to stay in touch with what is going on with everybody.  Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to comment often, and I can not even guess when was the last time that I had time to write a story for my LJ or read anything either.

I appreciate that you guys are understanding of my time constraints as many of you are even busier than I am, juggling kids and schedules too.  I'm not complaining or saying 'poor me', but I am just trying to explain why I may seem much less available lately.  Hopefully it will be a passing thing and my schedule re-adjusts some time soon.

*hugs you all* and thanks again.  You all make me feel very special.

Thanks for the Birthday Wishes to the following members of my f-list:

If I missed anyone, I apologize.

My Birthday was very nice.  It was made even nicer by the kind wishes that I received from you all.

I didn't get everything that I wished for, but I got way more than I expected.  And, that is always a good thing.

I saw an advertisement  the other day for Reese's Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups.  I went to several stores and could not find them until I went to the pharmacy to drop off a prescription and they had them.

I waited till after lunchtime today and slowly opened the package and before removing the first peanut butter cup I smelled them and was in heaven before I even had a bite.

I had a coffee with me, and I tried a small bite.  Oh my goodness, that was really good stuff!!!  The combination of the candy and the coffee was amazing.

I just needed to make a post so that you will all try them and get hooked too so they don't take them off the market.  One time I was in love with a candy and they took them away and I pouted a bunch, but it didn't bring my candy back.

This is a link to a candy review site.  It would seem the reviewer was also very high on the Reese's Dark.

I started a new job Aug 31.  I took a little vacation the week before.  These are some pics that I took at the place that I stayed.  It was absolutely beautiful.  I struggled to limit it to under ten pics.  All of the pics except the last one I took when I got up very early.

The grounds were bordered by a cherry orchard and the area was terraced with 3 levels and had 2 ponds, coi fish and little waterfalls.  I was able to feed the fish everyday.  Some of them were 10 years old.  Very pretty pets.

I had been having my morning coffee and then grabbed my camera and took a bunch of shots.  I hope you like them.

The last pic is a sunset.  Obviously.

The rest of the pics are under the cut... )

I was sitting on the couch and my hubby was reading the newest Rolling Stone Magazine that came.  It has Stephen Colbert on the cover.  They apparently have an article titled The 50 Best Reasons To Watch TV.  He pointed out that SPN made the list.

Reason #27

Redneck 'Supernatural'

This show features the Bo and Luke Duke of demon hunters, battling evil in their '67 Impala.Everything else is under the cut because of Season 5 Spoiler for the listing of Season 5's villain. )

After five years of being self-employed, I started my new job on Monday.  So I have three days under my belt.  I think that I am really going to like it.

I had an early morning today, I had to leave my house at 6:30am because we had a 7:30am start.

This is what pisses me off.  I had left in plenty of time to get to my new job fifteen minutes early.  I was on the interstate.  I wasn't speeding.  I was at the back of a pack of cars that were all speeding.  A State Trooper was stopped on the right shoulder.  After the group of cars that I was in passed him, he pulled out and pulled me over.

The State Trooper gave me a ticked for...NOT HAVING A LICENSE PLATE ON THE FRONT OF MY CAR.

Seriously.  A $97 fine.  Not just a warning.

I pointed out that I had bought the car used.  It was originally purchased in Florida by someone who drove it West then traded it in.  When I bought it, there was no license plate on the front of the car.

He said some people remove the plate to avoid photo law enforcement at traffic signals. I asked if I looked like the kind of person that would do that and I also told him to look at the front bumper.  There were no holes in it because THERE HAD NEVER BEEN A LICENSE PLATE THERE.

I even asked him if he was really going to write me a ticket for that.  Once I realized it was a done deal I just told him, "Well then you suppose you can speed this up?  I don't want to be late for work."

While he was standing next to my car he almost got hit by someone driving by.  Can you imagine?  Almost getting run over by someone else because I didn't have a license plate?  All of those people speeding right ahead of  me and I'm the one who got the ticket.  What a dick!!!

Oh, and I was in a pretty foul mood to start with.  I'd only had about 4 hours sleep and I was depressed about a personal thing and had been crying off and on for a couple of days and then this.

Glad to see my tax dollars at work.

There is a lyric in a song by Train, called She's on Fire

"It's not just a daydream if you decide to make it your life..."

Anytime that I have felt like poor me and I wasn't in control I have thought of that lyric and realized that it is up to ME to make my dreams come true.  What I realized was that for me and as complex as my life has gotten that will involve multiple steps and take close to a year, but one step at a time is the only way to do it.

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I had planned to close my business and was looking for a regular 9 to 5 job and at the end of the day I got to go home and forget about work.

I was driving down the road from the post office on the way back to the office.  My route took me past a cemetary.  Usually there is nobody there or there is a large group for a funeral.  But today as my vehicle got closer I noticed there was somebody there, a lone, solitary figure.

This just seems ludicrous to me.  Our forecast for today was a high of 98 degrees.  It is currently 107 degrees and when I was outside about an hour ago it was 114 degrees.  Oh, and I live in the Pacific Northwest.  Oregon.  It is really friggin' hot.

I guess when the temperature climbs 16 degrees higher than the forecast they don't actually bother updating it.  It doesn't give me any faith in tomorrow's forecast.

EDIT: A lot of people in the Pac NW don't have A/C, including me.  Last night I put a wet T-Shirt on Buddy my dog to cool him off.  I decided to get my tank top wet and lay on the couch with the fan on me.  It helped quite a bit.  So, I had a wet T-Shirt un-contest at my house last night.  No contest, just wet T-Shirts all around.  LOL

I am making some huge life changes.  I am closing my business and looking for a job.  I have some testing tomorrow for a position where I can work my shift and head home.

The tests include typing, and I got 87 words a minute a few times.  That is great since they only require 35 wpm, that ought to impress them.

The other include math, and something to do with Windows XP.  Hopefully it will all go well and they will want to interview me.  (one of my friends that I used to work with is a supervisor there, so I am very optimistic)  The thing I like about the job is that it is 40 hours a week, and when I'm done, I'm done.  I have hated owning my own business because I don't feel like I can ever get away from it.  Ever.

The bad part is I won't be able to take off whenever I want for vacations and stuff, but that is why they call it a job, right?  If it was fun people would pay them to do it.

Oh and they pay all the benefits and 100% paid health care for my hubby and I.  Which is very nice.  Wish me luck.
